Step 3a

This is the step where you get to use your creativity and your eye for symmetry. In this step you will move and scale the photo so the best features are showing through the template mask of Layer 2. With layer 2 selected in the layers palette go to Edit: Free Transform. A bounding box with handles will appear on the screen. You can use this box to rotate, resize and move your photo so the best parts of the photo are showing (refer to your Photoshop documentation if you are unfamiliar with the Free Transform feature.) Once you are satisfied with your adjustments, hit the enter key to complete the transformation.

Step 3b

Next you will copy the adjusted photo from layer 2 and begin to complete the remaining sections of your mandala. With layer 2 still selected in the layers palette, go to Edit: Select All; go to Edit: Copy. Doing this creates a copy of your photo with the transformations you applied in Step 3a. Next, in the layers palette, select Layer 1 (the template layer). Using the magic wand tool, select the second section of the template.

Step 3c

There are four steps to placing the photo in this section of the template so that it lines up as a mirror image of the photo in the first section:
1- Go to Edit:Paste Into.

2- Go to Edit:Transform:Flip Horizontal.

3- Go to Edit:Transform:Numeric and set the rotation to minus 45°. (In Photoshop 6 when you select the Transform tool with command-T, the options toolbar has a box where you can enter the degrees of rotation.)

4- Then using the move tool, move the photo in the second section into alignment with the photo in the first section. (Zoom in to check for accuracy.)
