Introduction
In the following pages you will find a step by step tutorial on how to create mandalas from digital photographs. This is the process I use to create Earth Mandalas. This tutorial assumes you have a working knowledge of your computer and Adobe Photoshop.
If you have Paint Shop Pro, here is a tutorial created by Jane Brazeal... thanks Jane!
What you need:
A computer with at Photoshop
Photoshop (version 4 or 5) and sufficient RAM to run the program. This tutorial was created with version 5.5 so some of the functions may be slightly different if you are using an earlier version, but these directions should still work.
A digital photograph
Here is a sample photo of juniper berries you can use with this tutorial. (If you wish to use your own digital photo in this tutorial, it should measure at least 370 pixels wide.) Copy this digital photo to your hard drive.
The template files
Five different Photoshop template files are included with this tutorial. You can find them by following this link to templates. This tutorial uses section-eight-web.gif (shown here). Copy this template to your hard drive.

If you want to experiment with other designs after competing the tutorial you can use other templates to create mandalas with 3, 4, 5, 6 or 8 sections. All of these templates will create a mandala about 370 pixels diameter and suited for display on a web page.
If you would like to create mandalas for output on your inkjet printer, download the larger .gif templates.
