Travelling Earth Mandalas Project
It is my goal this year to create 12 large mandala prints (30 inches in diameter or larger), get
them all framed and build sturdy shipping crates for them, so I can take them on the road. Can you imagine
a roomful of big, beautiful mandalas... me too!
Coming to a Community/Spiritual Center Near You
I imagine bringing them to community and spiritual centers around the United States and
even the world, where they could be displayed in a meditative space. People could come and sit
quietly for a period of time.
How Does This Sound?
On the opening evening local poets, sound healers, musicians and other
artists would be invited to add their dimension to the evening. (Each of the Earth
Mandalas has a sound signature, I would love to hear those who have more experience with creating
sounds bring out that aspect of them.) Robin suggests a labyrinth be a part of the exhibit, and I agree...
Mandala Making Workshop
And, for the communities that are interested, I could offer a mandala making workshop in
conjunction with the touring mandalas... In July of 2000, Anne Marie LeBlanc (Hi, Anne!) invited me
to present a workshop at the Laman Public Library in North Little Rock, AR. I brought several photos
to the workshop, and together as a group we created a mandala,
Laman Snowflake Mandala.
Large Amazing Archival Quality Prints
Large, archival quality prints on watercolor paper (or maybe canvas) would be available for sale (I do not yet know
the final sizes and prices -- I think something in the range of $325 for 30 inch unframed prints and $175 for
19 inch unframed prints. Please give me your ideas about this (the form to the right sends a message directly
to me), it will be valuable to know what you would find to be an affordable and reasonable price.
Giving Back to the Community
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these large archival quality prints would go to the
community/spiritual center hosting the tour. I am excited
about the idea of supporting community/spiritual centers with this work, it allows the offering
of large mandala prints to serve a more inclusive purpose.
Dreaming
Today, I have no idea how this is all going to come about. Last night I had a dream that I was in the
ocean and a huge wave was rising straight up behind me, it curved over me and for a moment I was
in a gleeming air tunnel beneath the curve. Then the water crashed closed, and I began to swim upward.
And then I also had a dream that I was stepping off the edge of the universe
(like in Indiana Jones in the Temple of Doom). The revelation of the dream was that once you step off the
edge you do not fall because there is no edge, everything is the universe.
A Chance to Create
That being said, I am beginning to look into the logistics of creating/printing the large mandalas.
They will be fine art giclee prints, made on a large format fine art inkjet printer. I had the
chance while I was hibernating this winter to operate an Iris fine art printer in Phoenix
(Thank you David Dupree of Dupree Fine Arts!). I printed test images of four different mandalas:
Chief's Tree,
Dolphin Moon,
Chrysanthemum and
Fire Blossom (pictured here above).
Reaching Out and Connecting
I welcome your thoughts, ideas, suggestions (please scroll to response form at the right above).
I am a shepherdess to these Earth Mandalas. These images
are here for you. Create them. Share them.
You give me strength to carry on when you share with me the difference they make in your life. Thank you
for travelling with me on this road...
