Komra Atiri Cheyean Moriko
Creator of Earth Mandalas
born June 7, 1959
Gemini, Cancer moon, Sagitarius rising
Komra is my spirit name. It means Gentle prayer, from the highest source,
for the spirit of the Earth. I do my best to live up to this name.
Of Scandinavian descent I am Komra, daughter of Lucia, daughter of Stella,
daughter of Alma, daughter of Matilda.
I grew up in northern Wisconsin, where the winters are very cold and things
are still very much the same as when I left 16 years ago. Beginning in August 2000 I
spent a short time in my home state. It is very beautiful in Wisconsin. I rode horses
here as a young girl, bareback through
the tall grass under rainbows. I was very strong and could stack hay bales 5 tiers high.
Now I find myself in the state of Maine, where the gem tourmaline is found. The forest
touches the ocean here at the place where many wide rivers meet the ocean tide. I have been searching
for my home (after being a nomad since leaving my family home in 1980), and hope to find
it here. Lately I have been picking up pieces of moss, so beautiful, so many different kinds,
and then found it funny -- you know what they say about "the rolling stone..."
It is my goal this year to create 12 large mandala prints (30 inches in diameter or larger), get
them all framed and build sturdy shipping crates, so I can take them on the road. Can you imagine
a roomful of big, beautiful mandalas... me too!
(Read about the Travelling Mandala Project here.)
My husband, Otan, is a master coach
(you can see more about his work here)
and embodies the king, lover, warrior, magician and healer
archetypes. A quadruple Aries (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars in Aries), he is always
interesting, completely loyal, very playful and very powerful.
When I left my hometown, I dropped out of art school because I realized no
one can teach you how to be an artist. I became a graphic artist by trade and
have worked in the graphic arts for the past 20 years.
I have a son who is now 19 and a very great person, with a good heart and wisdom beyond
his years. He has complete his freshman year at university and I am so proud of him...
he is a musician and a
computer geek (like me).
I am a spiritual warrior, a healer and an artist. Living your dream takes
courage and faith and a willingness to let go of what is not working for you.
Earth Mandalas were an idea that came to me as I was hiking in the
California hills east of Monterey. I saw in my minds eye Feathers Fire Mandala.
It took some time for me to figure out how to actually create the images in my computer.
To the right are some art pieces I created before the idea for the mandalas came to pass.
